Well Beings Blog - What are those related tags all about?
You may have noticed the links at the bottom of my posts that link to technorati.com. I just thought I'd explain why they're there... This blog is an experimental medium for us to spread the word about topics that matter to us. We hope to share valuable resources like research data, pet product news, podcasts from interviews, and other cool stuff. There are a lot of websites out there that have interesting content on topics that we talk about, and those links (tags) show blogs that are supposed to be related to the text in the tags.
"Think of a tag as a simple category name. People can categorize their posts, photos, and links with any tag that makes sense." (find our more here). This self categorization of content is pretty useful in cases where the information may not lend itself to proper search engine indexing due to whatever the latest search algorithms are. We are aware of the potential for abuse and are evaluating the usefulness of these tags. Spam tags (in this case purposeful miscategorization) are a problem that Technorati is dealing with on an ongoing basis. And like all the major search engines, they have ways to filter out spammers...
If you own a blog and have legitimate content to share, I really recommend looking into Technorati. They've got a top notch team that actually responds to emails. Also check out their Developer Center for the latest Technorati News to make sure you take full advantage of what they have to offer. To me, this is just one of the many tools we use in our efforts to reach as wide an audience as possible. Who knows, one day you just might make it on their top 100 blogs list.
